Complete Telnyashka Size Guide: US, EU & Japanese Size Conversion
The Easy Telnyashka Size Guide with Bear 🐻
Choosing a Telnyashka size may look confusing at first.
Our shirts use traditional numbered sizes such as 42, 44, 46, 48, and 50. These numbers are different from the letter sizes many people use in the United States, Europe, and Japan.
Do not worry. Bear from Telnyashka World will show you how to find your size in a few simple steps.
This guide includes:

Meet Bear, Your Telnyashka Size Guide
Bear loves warm tea, comfortable clothes, and Telnyashkas that fit just right.
Today, he will help you measure your chest, understand the different size systems, and choose between a closer fit and a more relaxed fit.
You only need:
- a soft measuring tape;
- a few minutes;
- the size table below.
Bear’s first rule is simple:
Measure your body before choosing your size.
Letter sizes can be different from one country or brand to another. Your real chest measurement is more useful than the letters on an old shirt.

Step 1: Measure Around Your Chest
Stand straight and relax your body.
Wrap a soft measuring tape around the widest part of your chest. The tape should pass under your arms and continue straight across your back.
Keep the measuring tape:
- level with the floor;
- close to the body;
- comfortable, not tight;
- flat, without twists.
Do not hold your breath or push your chest forward. Breathe normally while measuring.
Ask another person to help when possible. This usually gives a more accurate result.

Step 2: Read Your Chest Measurement
Write down the number where the measuring tape meets.
For example:
- 92 cm is about 36 inches;
- 100 cm is about 39 inches;
- 108 cm is about 42.5 inches.
The chest numbers in our table describe the approximate body chest measurement connected with each traditional Telnyashka size.
Choose the closest size based on your chest. When your measurement falls between two sizes, use your preferred fit to decide.

Telnyashka Size Chart
The table below combines traditional Telnyashka sizes with approximate US, international, and Japanese size labels.
Important: Letter sizes are only a general comparison. Clothing labels may differ between brands and countries. For the safest choice, use your chest measurement.

Size 42 and its approximate length are based on the progression of the supplier’s size chart. Small differences may occur between Telnyashka models and production batches.
Understanding the Different Size Names
Telnyashka and European Numbered Sizes
Traditional Telnyashkas often use numbered sizes:
42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60.
A higher number means a larger chest size.
Each step usually adds about 4 cm to the recommended chest measurement.
For example:
- size 46 is for about a 92 cm chest;
- size 48 is for about a 96 cm chest;
- size 50 is for about a 100 cm chest.

US and International Sizes
Many customers know sizes such as:
XS, S, M, L, XL, and XXL.
We show these familiar letter sizes beside the original numbered size in each product selector.
For example:
- 46 is shown as S;
- 48 is shown as M;
- 50 is shown as L;
- 52 is shown as XL.
These letters make shopping easier, but they are still approximate. One brand’s size M may fit like another brand’s size S or L.
That is why Bear always checks the chest measurement first.

Japanese Sizes
Japanese clothing often uses:
S, M, L, LL, 3L, 4L, and larger sizes.
Japanese garments are also often designed with a closer or slimmer fit. An original Telnyashka may feel more relaxed than a typical Japanese T-shirt with a similar letter on the label.
For customers in Japan, we recommend:
- Measure your chest in centimeters.
- Find that number in the table.
- Use the Japanese size only as a helpful comparison.
- Choose the larger size when you prefer a comfortable, relaxed fit.
For example, a customer with a chest close to 100 cm should first look at Telnyashka size 50, shown approximately as Japanese LL / XL.

Step 3: Choose Your Preferred Fit
After finding your chest measurement, decide how you want your Telnyashka to fit.
Choose a closer fit when:
- you like your shirts near the body;
- you plan to wear the Telnyashka under another layer;
- your measurement is close to the lower part of a size range.
Choose a relaxed fit when:
- you prefer more room around the chest and waist;
- you want a comfortable everyday style;
- you plan to wear another thin layer underneath;
- your chest measurement falls between two sizes.
When you are exactly between two sizes, the larger size is usually the safer choice for comfort.

Example: How Bear Chooses His Size
Bear measures his chest.
His chest is 107 cm.
The closest sizes are:
- size 52 for a 104 cm chest;
- size 54 for a 108 cm chest.
Bear likes tea, long walks, and a comfortable fit. He chooses size 54 / XXL / Japanese 4L.
The shirt gives him enough room without looking too large.
If Bear wanted a closer fit, size 52 might work, but size 54 is the more comfortable choice for his measurement.

How Is Telnyashka Length Measured?
Telnyashka length is measured from the top of the shoulder near the collar down to the bottom edge of the shirt.
Do not measure from the center of the neck.
Lay the Telnyashka flat on a table and smooth the fabric without stretching it. Place the tape at the highest shoulder point and measure straight down.
Original Telnyashkas are often made long enough to stay comfortably tucked into trousers when needed.
The length generally increases with the size, from approximately 69–70 cm in the smallest sizes to approximately 77 cm in the largest sizes shown here.

Do Not Measure Only an Old T-Shirt
Measuring an old shirt can help, but it is not always reliable.
The old shirt may:
- have stretched;
- have shrunk after washing;
- use a different size system;
- have a very different cut.
Your body chest measurement should be the main guide.
You can compare the length with a shirt you already like, but use the chest table to choose your Telnyashka size.

What If Your Chest and Waist Need Different Sizes?
Some people have a wider chest. Others need more room around the waist.
When two parts of your body suggest different sizes, choose the size that fits the largest measurement.
For example:
- your chest suggests size 50;
- your waist feels more comfortable in size 52.
Choose size 52.
A slightly relaxed shirt is usually more comfortable than a shirt that feels tight around one part of the body.

Will the Telnyashka Shrink?
Natural cotton clothing can change slightly after washing, especially when washed in very hot water or dried with strong heat.
To protect the fit:
- follow the care instructions on the product page;
- use gentle washing;
- avoid very high temperatures;
- reshape the shirt while it is damp;
- do not stretch the fabric while measuring.
When you are between sizes and are worried about shrinkage, choosing the larger size may be more comfortable.

Different Telnyashka Models May Fit Differently
Summer, winter, sleeveless, and oversized Telnyashkas may not feel exactly the same.
A winter Telnyashka uses heavier fabric and may feel more structured.
An oversized model is designed to look loose.
A sleeveless Telnyashka may feel different around the shoulders.
Always check the product description for model-specific notes. The size table is your main starting point, but the type of shirt and your preferred style also matter.
